Who is Kevin Glackin?

Kevin Glackin comes from a famly whose name is synonymous with Irish traditional music. His father Tom who came from the Rosses in west Donegal was one of a small bunch of musicians that helped keep traditional music alive in Dublin during the fifties and sixties.

Kevin began playing the fiddle at the age of six under the tutelage of his father. From an early age he was exposed to the finest traditional music attending sessions and Fleadhanna (traditional music festivals) the length and breath of Ireland. The Glackin household was also a well-known house where musicians frequented. Being exposed at such a young age to this great musical tradition left an indelible mark on Kevin. It also left a great desire for him to continue with, and transmit to, the next generation this wonderful musical tradition.

By his late teens Kevin was in big demand as a performer and teacher. He toured extensively North America with Sean Potts (ex Chieftains) and Bakerswell. He was also in demand to teach at various festivals throughout the country including the Willie Clancy week in Miltown Malbay Co Clare.

In the mid eighties Kevin featured on a number of albums wit musicians such as Davy Spillane, Mary Black, Donal Lunny etc. In 1988 he released a fiddle duet album with his brother Seamus called "Northern Lights" which at the time was hailed as one of the finest examples of fiddle duet playing ever recorded. The Album was voted album of the year by the Belfast Telegraph.

By the mid nineties Kevin and his old busking pal Davy Spillane, after years exploring different musical paths began to play together again and re explore the old tunes that initially inspired them. This simple duet of pipes and fiddle proved a big hit with audiences in the U.S.A. and Europe. This partnership culminated with a classic album called "Forgotten Days" which was voted best traditional album for 2001 by the readers of Irish Music Magazine.

Kevin is currently involved in different musical projects in various areas such as recording, performing, and education. He is a director of "Scoiltrad" the worlds first on line interactive music school (www.scoiltrad.com) . He currently lectures at the conservatory of music and drama, D.I.T (Dublin Institute of Technology) on traditional music performance.

Kevin brings to the Irish Music Agency the highest standards in traditional music in terms of performance, professionalism and integrity.
